Fence Cleaning in Melbourne

Bringing Your Boundary Fence
Back to Life Across Melbourne

Fences along Melbourne homes weather differently than the house itself. South-facing runs sit in shade most of the day, narrow side passages trap moisture, and stretches tucked behind garden beds stay damp for weeks at a time through Melbourne’s cool, wet winters. Those are the spots where dark mould blooms, green algae creeps up from the ground, and dusty cobwebs settle in. Timber paling, brick, render, and Colorbond fences each weather their own way, but the result is the same: a freshly washed home with a grimy boundary fence still looks half-finished. The fence is the line your eye follows down the side of the property, and a clean one usually makes a bigger visual difference than homeowners expect.

Mr Sparkle Window Cleaning takes a straightforward approach to fence cleaning: it’s included as part of our house washing service, so when we wash the home, the fence comes with it. Same soft-wash method, same chemistry that breaks down mould and algae without aggressive blasting, same three-pass plant protection along the garden beds that almost always run alongside the fence line. We’re 95% residential-focused, so the work is built around real Melbourne homes and real boundary fences.

Most quotes go out within 30 minutes to one hour, and around 90% are handled remotely. The simplest path is to book a house wash and have the fence cleaned as part of it. Call us today on (03) 7073 2133 to get on the schedule.

How Pricing Works for the Fence Clean

Fence Cleaning Is Built Into Your House Wash

When you book a house wash with us, the fence cleaning is included. That means one quote, one booking, one visit, and one team handling the whole exterior:

  • The fence is part of the exterior we’re already cleaning, so there’s no separate fee.
  • One booking covers the home and fence together, with no second appointment to coordinate.
  • Pricing for the house wash itself runs $800$1,200 depending on home size, number of stories, surface type, accessibility, and how long it’s been since the last clean.

The same factors that move the house wash quote up or down also account for the fence work:

  • Size of the home and fence run. Longer fence lines take more time, chemical, and rinsing.
  • Number of stories. Single-storey homes are more straightforward; double-storey homes need extra setup.
  • Time since the last clean. A property cleaned a year ago runs a standard cycle; one untouched for ten years has heavier buildup.
  • Fence material and condition. Heavily neglected timber or render may need a longer dwell or repeat application.
  • Accessibility. Tight side passages, locked gates, and limited room along the fence line mean more careful, section-by-section work.
  • Surrounding landscaping. More vegetation along the fence means more rinse passes.

To confirm a booking, you pay a 50% deposit online with no credit card fees. For a price tailored to your home, call us and we’ll talk through it.

Bundle With Exterior Window Cleaning for $75 Off

If you’re already booking a house wash, adding exterior window cleaning to the same visit gets you $75 off. Most customers take it because the windows want a final rinse after the home and fence are washed anyway, and since the fence is already part of the house wash, the bundle wraps home, fence, and windows into a single trip.

The quote process is built around speed. During business hours, we usually respond to inquiries within one to five minutes, often within one minute. Most quotes go out within 30 minutes to one hour, and around 90% are completed remotely using Google Earth, Street View, listing photos, or photos you send through. For homes with unusual side-passage access, customer-sent photos are the fastest path. If you’d rather meet face to face, in-person quotes are free of charge in our local service area.

Current offers are confirmed at the time of quoting.

Fence Materials We Handle
Across Melbourne Properties

We soft-wash the materials that turn up most often on Melbourne homes: timber paling, brick, render, and Colorbond-style metal. The same care we apply to the home goes into the fence.

Timber Paling Fences

Timber paling is the most common material we encounter, and it runs through our standard soft-wash process: pre-rinse the vegetation, apply detergent, allow it to dwell, rinse the timber thoroughly, then a final rinse on the plants. The lower-pressure approach is the whole point. Timber doesn’t benefit from aggressive pressure, and the wrong technique can splinter or strip an aged paling. Weathered timber sometimes looks dramatically better after a clean because the buildup was hiding the grain underneath.

Brick and Rendered Fences

Brick and rendered fences are often built from the same materials as the home itself, and they follow the same soft-wash process as the rest of the house wash. Render is more porous than brick, so mould and algae embed deeply rather than sitting on top. For a render fence neglected for years, we may repeat the soap, dwell, and rinse cycle two or three times to lift the growth properly. We don’t add pressure to compensate; we add chemistry. Brick mortar in good condition handles the cleaning fine, and where mortar is already failing, we adjust the approach so the cleaning leaves it no worse than it started.

Special Fence

Colorbond and Metal Fences

Colorbond steel is one of the most common modern fencing choices across Melbourne, and coated metal is cleaned at low pressure with appropriate detergent and thorough rinsing. The goal is to lift surface grime and growth while protecting the factory coating. We adjust the technique to suit coated metal rather than hitting it with the same force used on concrete or pavers.

Composite Fence

Stained, Sealed, and Painted Timber

Sealed stained timber is generally fine because the seal protects the stain underneath. Unsealed stained timber needs a more careful read: the chemical can lift the stain straight off the surface. We’ve seen this on a previous job where timber surfaces were stained but not sealed and couldn’t be safely covered, so we paused work rather than risk damage. The same principle applies to fence panels in that condition. We always check first, explain what we’re seeing, and either work carefully around vulnerable sections or leave them untouched. We’d rather skip a panel than damage it.

Older, Weathered, or Failing Fence Sections

Some fences, especially older timber palings, may be weathered, splintered, or starting to rot. Soft washing won’t fix structural issues, and we’ll tell you that plainly. If we find a section that’s genuinely deteriorating, we’ll flag it during the walkthrough and either work gently around it or leave it alone. You deserve a clear, upfront read on what cleaning will achieve so there are no surprises after we’ve finished.

What We Don't Do With Fences

A few finishing services sit outside the scope of this work, so it’s worth being clear on where we stop:

  • Fence staining and re-staining are handled by a finishing trade.
  • Fence painting and sealing are also a finishing trade.
  • Fence repair, sanding, and structural restoration are a separate carpentry service.
  • Fence cleaning is delivered as part of the house wash rather than as a standalone job.

If you’re planning a stain-and-seal restoration, the clean is a strong first step and we can recommend a separate trade to handle the finishing afterwards.

What's Outside Our Scope

So you know exactly where we stop: our work covers the cleaning side. Sealing, re-sanding (including polymeric sand), re-jointing, and restoration or colour treatments are separate trades. If any of that’s on your wishlist, we can recommend a specialist to handle it after we’ve cleaned the paving for them.

What Sets Us Apart on Fence Cleaning in Melbourne

Quick Replies, No Chasing Quotes

Most people booking exterior cleaning are juggling work and family, and they shouldn’t have to chase a contractor across three days for a price. We treat fast replies as basic respect for your time, and during business hours we get back to inquiries quickly so you can move forward with your decision the same day.

Quotes Sent Within the Hour, Mostly Without a Site Visit

Quoting remotely keeps the process simple for everyone. We use Google Earth, Street View, listing photos, and any photos you send through to put together an accurate price without taking time out of your day for a site visit. For homes with unusual fence access or hidden side passages, a few photos from you are the fastest path. For homeowners who’d rather meet face to face, in-person quotes are free of charge in our local service area.

Soft Washing, Not High-Pressure Blasting

A lot of homeowners ask for “pressure washing” on their fence because they don’t know there’s another option. We use soft washing: the same industrial machine, configured for high water volume and low pressure, paired with a chemical treatment that does the actual lifting. Organic growth comes off; paint and delicate timber stay intact.

A Detergent Process That Actually Lifts Mould and Cobwebs

We use SH (sodium hypochlorite, also known as bleach) because it’s the industry-standard agent for breaking down mould, algae, and cobwebs on exterior surfaces. We’re upfront about what’s in the bottle, the dwell time, and the way it works, because the chemistry is what makes a real soft wash effective. Dwell time runs 5 to 15 minutes, and we work in sections so the chemical never dries on the surface.

Plant Protection Built Into Every Job

This matters more for fences than for almost anything else we clean. A fence usually runs right alongside garden beds, hedges, lawn edges, and climbing plants, so vegetation gets a thorough rinse before any chemical is applied, again during dwell to dilute any drift, and once more after each section is finished. Three rinse passes per section, every job.

Honest Communication, Including the Awkward Bits

We tell homeowners upfront when a fence has unsealed stained timber that needs to be skipped or worked around. We’re straight about what soft washing can and can’t do for a deeply weathered fence. Bringing those details up before we start the job, instead of after the bill arrives, is part of the standard we hold ourselves to.

Five-Star Reputation Across Melbourne Homes

Mr Sparkle Window Cleaning is one of the most-reviewed and highly rated exterior cleaning companies in our area, with a consistent five-star rating. That’s earned reputation, not marketing language. Every review came from a real Melbourne homeowner who got the result they were promised.

Fully Insured, Satisfaction-First, Money-Back Promise

We carry public liability insurance up to $20 million, and every job ends with a customer walkthrough on completion, or a video walkthrough if you’re not home. If anything is missed, we come back free of charge. If you’re genuinely not happy with the work, we refund you. We’ll give your money back. We don’t want to fight with anyone.

How Our Fence Cleaning Process Works

Fence cleaning isn’t a separate process. It’s built into our house wash, using the same soft-wash method on the fence as we use on the home. The work moves through eight phases.

Phase 1: Quick Inquiry Response and Remote Assessment

When an inquiry comes in during business hours, we reply quickly, generally within a minute. For fence cleaning, we ask a short list of discovery questions: home size, fence material, fence condition, access along the fence line, and whether the timber is stained, sealed, or painted. Then we review the property remotely through Google Earth, Street View, and listing photos. For homes with tight side passages or fences hidden from street view, we’ll ask you to send a few photos. Most quotes go out within 30 minutes to one hour.

Phase 2: Booking, Online Deposit, and 24-Hour Reminder

Once you’ve accepted the quote, we lock in your preferred time and take a 50% deposit online with no credit card fees. You’ll get a booking confirmation immediately, then a reminder 24 hours before service. The reminder is also when we ask you to close windows, keep pets inside, unlock side gates so we can access the fence line, and flag any sensitive plants or stained timber sections.

Phase 3: On-Time Arrival, Walk-Around, and Setup

We arrive on time, park for direct access, introduce ourselves, and walk the home and fence with you to confirm scope. This is when we flag anything that needs careful handling, such as unsealed stained timber, weathered paling, or mortar concerns on a brick fence. Then we connect hoses to the on-site water supply, fill the truck tank, and cover any sensitive exterior electricals with plastic and tape. We ask for water access on site because our machine puts out around 30 litres per minute and our 200-litre tank wouldn’t last seven minutes on its own.

Phase 4: Pre-Rinse Vegetation Along the Fence Line

Before any chemical touches the fence or the home, every plant near the work area gets a thorough soak rinse. This matters more for fence work than almost anything else we clean, because fences typically run alongside garden beds, lawn edges, climbing plants, and hedges. Saturating plants with clean water before any chemical contact is the foundation of safe chemical use, and we treat it as a required step on every job.

Phase 5: Apply Soft-Wash Detergent to the Fence and the Home

We apply our SH-based soft-wash detergent in measured sections, working two sides at a time so the chemical doesn’t dry on any surface. The fence section being cleaned is treated alongside the section of the home it sits next to, so the work flows naturally around the property. The detergent starts breaking down mould, algae, cobwebs, and exterior grime so a controlled rinse can lift it cleanly.

Phase 6: Dwell Time, Mid-Rinse Vegetation, Rinse the Fence

After the detergent goes on, it dwells while it works the buildup loose. During the dwell, we go back through the vegetation along the fence line with another rinse to dilute any drift, the second rinse pass for landscaping in that section. Once the dwell is complete, we rinse the fence and the adjacent section of the home thoroughly. The rinse isn’t rushed; it’s where the actual cleaning happens.

Phase 7: Final Plant Rinse, Move to the Next Section

Before we move on, vegetation gets a third thorough rinse, the finishing pass for that area. Then we repeat the full cycle on the next two sides: pre-rinse, apply, dwell, mid-rinse, rinse, final plant rinse. Working in this controlled rotation is what keeps the result consistent across the whole property.

Phase 8: Internal Quality Check, Customer Walkthrough, Free Return

Our team does its own walkthrough first, looking for inconsistent fence sections, missed spots, or runoff areas, and we fix what we find on the spot. Then we walk you through the finished work in person, or record a video walkthrough if you’re not home. The day after or the week after, our office team gives you a “happy call” to confirm everything is to standard and, if you’re happy with the result, ask for a Google review.

How We Stand Behind Every Fence and House Wash

We Stay Until You're Happy with the Walkthrough

We don’t leave a paver cleaning job until you (or your video walkthrough) confirm you’re happy. If something needs to be touched up before we go, we touch it up on the spot. No follow-up booking, no extra trip charge.

Free Return Visit for Anything You Notice Later

If you notice something after we’ve left, like a corner that needs another pass or an edge along a garden bed that wasn’t fully cleared, we come back free of charge. No callout fee, no argument, no fine print buried in a service agreement.

Money Back If the Result Isn't Right

In the rare case the result isn’t right, we refund you. The way we say it on site is the same way we mean it: we’ll give your money back, and we don’t want to fight with anyone.

$20 Million in Public Liability Cover

We carry public liability insurance up to $20 million. The cover sits behind a careful job: thorough preparation, plant protection, surface assessment, and clear scope on every property before the equipment comes off the truck.

What We Won't Promise on a Paver Clean

Honesty over the easy answer:

  • Oil stains. Degreasers fade them noticeably; full erasure depends on how deeply the oil has penetrated.
  • Existing joint condition. Cleaning a paver doesn’t repair a joint that’s already breaking apart.
  • Efflorescence. The white hazy deposit that can appear on concrete pavers is a material chemistry issue rather than a surface cleaning issue, so it’s outside what cleaning can resolve.
  • Cure time. Newly laid pavers and concrete pavers less than three years old need to set fully before high-pressure cleaning is appropriate.

These boundaries are confirmed at the time of booking, so the result we promise is the result you get.

Great communication throughout and outstanding result from a very ‘dirty’ start point.
We had Antonio come out to our place in Mentone to pressure clean the paving around the house and clean all of our external windows. The paving had built up a lot of dirt and staining over time, and now it looks fresh and well-maintained again. The windows were left sparkling clean and have made the whole house feel brighter. Antonio was professional, friendly and clearly takes pride in his work. He paid attention to the little details and didn't rush the job. It's hard to find reliable trades these days, so it was great to have such a positive experience. Would happily use his services again in the future. Thanks again!

I had Antonio out to our place in Beaumaris last week to clean the driveway, pavers and weatherboards. He did a fantastic job and the difference was noticeable straight away. Antonio was friendly, professional and took the time to make sure everything was done properly. Our place honestly looks so much better now, especially the driveway and weatherboards. You don't realise how much dirt builds up over time until it's cleaned properly. Thanks again Antonio, really appreciate the effort you put in. I'd be happy to recommend him to anyone looking to freshen up the outside of their home.
Three years of great results and a solid working relationship. Reliable, professional, and a pleasure to partner with. Highly recommend this team.

Antonio did an incredible job soft-washing a property we were preparing for sale. His level of service and effort was 110%, and he was also fantastic value for money. I can’t believe he even sent me before and after pictures of the house, and did a quick video rundown to talk through a couple of things! I found his company on Google in a hurry (after another company pulled the pin last minute), and I’m so glad I did! It turns out he’s done work for a colleague of mine as well, who gave me the same great feedback. Thanks heaps, Antonio — you are amazing!

We had an absolutely fantastic experience with Mr. Sparkles. They cheerfully pressure cleaned the house, pergola and granny flat, and also took care of the gutters. Nothing was too much trouble. Communication was outstanding from start to finish. Antonio organised the job seamlessly, arrived right on time, and ensured everything ran smoothly. They were extremely thorough and took great care to make sure no water leaked inside the house during the cleaning process. All round, an excellent, excellent service — professional, reliable, and a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended.

Ours was a difficult job, involving a roof and external window clean. With two gum trees and an oak tree in close proximity, a white Colorbond flat roof with numerous solar panels in situ, a sawtooth section that required care and fitness to access and a two storey section as well, the brief was not straight forward. I need not have worried. Antonio and Ali were professional and courteous and removed bags of debris with care. We are very happy with the outcome of both roof and windows and will definitely use their services when next required.

Mr Sparkle Absolutely thrilled with the terrific job Ali and Antonio did today. The attention to detail, care, consideration and explanation was first class. This was the second time Mr Sparkle has visited and again they did a great job. Janet (Nov2025)

Frequently Asked Questions

Fence cleaning is delivered as part of our house washing service rather than as a separate booking. When we wash the home, the fence is cleaned alongside it, using the same soft-wash method and the same plant protection. This keeps the property looking consistently refreshed and saves you booking two separate jobs.

There’s no separate fence cleaning fee. The fence is included as part of our house washing service, which typically runs $800$1,200 depending on home size, number of stories, surface type, accessibility, and how long it’s been since the last clean.

We soft-wash the fence materials common across Melbourne homes: timber paling, brick, render, and Colorbond-style metal. The method is adjusted to suit each material, with lower pressure on coated metal and timber, and repeated treatments where needed on porous render.

We don’t pressure-wash timber fences. We use soft washing: high water volume, low pressure, paired with a detergent that breaks down mould and algae. The chemistry does the lifting, not the pressure, so timber stays intact and paint or stain (when sealed) isn’t affected.

We use SH (sodium hypochlorite, also known as bleach), the industry-standard agent for breaking down mould, algae, and cobwebs on exterior surfaces. Dwell time runs 5 to 15 minutes depending on how dirty the property is, and we work in sections so the chemical never dries on the surface.

We rinse vegetation thoroughly before any chemical is applied, again during dwell time to dilute any drift, and once more after the section is rinsed clean. Three rinse passes per section, every job. Garden beds, hedges, lawn edges, and climbing plants along the fence get the same care as plants near the home.

Unsealed stained timber can be affected by the chemical because the wash can lift the stain off. We always check the fence first, explain what we’re seeing, and either work carefully around the affected sections or leave them untouched. We’d rather skip a panel than damage it.

Those finishing services are handled by separate trades, and we focus on the cleaning itself. If you’re planning to re-stain or re-seal afterwards, the clean is a strong first step, and we can recommend a finishing trade to take it from there.

We can clean the fence on your side of the boundary as part of the house wash. The neighbour’s side is usually their decision to make. Tell us during the quote which sections you’d like included and we’ll work the access into the plan.

Yes, and most customers do. Adding exterior window cleaning to a house wash gets you $75 off the bundle. Since the fence is already included in the house wash, the bundle covers home, fence, and windows in one visit.
